Libraries have always been one of Jannah's favorite places. She loves the books and computers, of course; but most of all, she loved the library staff at her school and public libraries growing up.Â
Bullied, ostracized, and unable to make friends with peers, school librarians created a safe haven during recess and after school where she was accepted, welcomed, respected, and cherished for who she was. She helped by giving honest book reviews when asked (and probably even when she wasn't), suggesting purchases, working the circulation desk, repairing books, helping with the book fair, programs and storytimes, serving on the teen advisory board, and lots more. She liked many of her teachers, but Mrs. Kona, Ms. Price, Sammy, and Ms. Bybee at the public library were - and still are! - some of her absolute favorite humans.
Jannah became a librarian because she loves helping others, but most of all, she wants kids and teens to have a librarian who genuinely cares, listens, encourages, supports, and offers a safe space to be themselves - just like the librarians she had.
